Training Workshop on Web Searching for Agricultural Research Scientists and Development Officers
 
PREMISE: The Web can be likening to a very big library or a worldwide library of books. However, locating the correct information can be very challenging. In addition the process is time consuming and expensive unless one have the appropriate skills for searching the web. The most important issue in Internet search is to be able to obtain as many best matches (accurate results) to a query as possible.

OBJECTIVES: This workshop is, therefore, designed to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills for effectively surfing the web. At the end of the workshop, the participants should be able to:
 
  • appreciate the role of the Internet in management
  • use search engines, and
  • access appropriate information from the web.
    CONTENT:
  • Introduction to computer.
  • Overview of Communication and Information Technology (ICT).
  • Principles of web searching.
  • Overview of Internet Explorer software:
    1. Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    2. Netscape Navigator.
    3. Mozilla Fire Fox
  • Searching techniques.
TRAINING METHODS: Lecturettes, demonstrations and hands-on practical exercises on computers

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Research Scientists, Extension Officers, Officers of PRSD from both the Federal and State Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Technical Editors and other Information professionals in NGOs,/ CBOs, and Librarians / Library Officers, Participants need not be computer literate.
