Management Development for Facilitators of Special Programme for Food Security, Fadama and Community Based Project
 
PREMISE: On-going National Fadama Development Project, (NFDPII), Community-Based Agricultural and Rural Development Projects (CBARDPs), National Special Programme for Food Security (NSPFS) and related projects have emphasized the use of community-driven approach to development. The on-going projects have, therefore, engaged the service of facilitators to assist in strengthening the capacities of the community in the formulating and implementing local development plan using participatory approaches ARMTI's interaction with the participating states in the on-going projects reveal that many of the facilitators require relevant knowledge and skills to carry out this task effectively.

OBJECTIVES: This course id designed to provide the facilitators with the enabling knowledge and skills to carry out their expected roles. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to:
 
  • describe and relate the community-driven approach to agricultural and rural development;
  • apply participatory skills to their job situation;
  • facilitate the preparation and use of local development plan at the grassroots; and
  • manage conflicts among natural resource users effectively.

  • The pillars of community-driven development.
  • Participatory development: concept and techniques.
  • Development plan preparation at the local level
  • Project implementation, operation and maintenance.
  • Community project found management.
  • Participatory monitoring and evaluation.
  • Saving and credit schemes management.
  • Community-based procurement and contract management.
  • Environmental impact assessment of project activities.
  • Conflict management among users of natural recourses.
TRAINING METHODS: Lecturettes, group discussions, case studies and practical exercises.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Project facilitators, management committee members of fadama Community Associations (FCAs) and their constituent Fadama Users Groups (FUGs), community development officers, supervisory councilors and head of agriculture in local government councils, facilitators of NGOs/CBOs and coordinators of public and private-sectors organizations involved in grassroots development.
