Agroforestry
Management for Sustainable Agricultural Production |
PREMISE: The massive loss of soil fertility of agricultural land throughout the country has raised fundamental questions on the efficiency of land-use practices and management. Agroforestry has been identified as a viable agricultural practice option that could sustain agricultural soil productivity but this advantage is yet to be realised by farmers.Some of the reasons why farmers are not taking advantage of this option include lack of proper appreciation of agroforestry benefits and management issues of practising agroforestry.
OBJECTIVES:
This course aims at creating awareness among the
participants on the importance of proper
agroforestry practices on sustaining agricultural
production on a given piece of land. At the end of
the course, participants should be able to:
|
- apply agroforestry practices to improve and sustain soil fertility;
- describe the different agroforestry model and their applications to the farming systems of various
agro-ecological zones;
- plan, organise and manage agroforestry practices; and
- link farmers, extension, research, and input agencies in agroforestry practices.
