Management of Public Relations in the Agricultural and Rural Sector
 
PREMISE: The importance of agriculture in the Nigerian economy cannot be over-emphasized. In spite of this, the sector is beset by many problems. Some of these are inadequate attention paid to it by policy makers, lack of interest in its production activities as well as lack of proper appreciation of its general operations and contributions by the public. These problems are partly due to the limited understanding of the Public Relations Officers in the sector to effectively apply the principles and concepts of public relations in sensitizing the public.

OBJECTIVES: The workshop is, therefore, designed to provide Public Relation managers with the requisite knowledge and skills to enhance Public Relations practice in the context of the ARD sector. At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:
 
  • demonstrate better understanding of the peculiarities of sector;
  • formulate appropriate public relations strategies to enhance effective interaction between their organizations and the public and;
  • disseminate information for the mutual benefits of their organizations and the public.

  • The role of Public Relations in the Agricultural and Rural Development sector.
  • Understanding the public.
  • Packaging the boss and organization
  • Corporate social responsibilities. 
  • Developing communication skill for effective public relations.
  • Managing interpersonal relationship.
  • The use of internet facilities for public relations function.
  • Developing a model SERVICOM chapter for Organisations.
TRAINING METHODS: Lecturettes, role play, group discussions, case studies and exercises.
