Agricultural Project Planning and Implementation Management
 
PREMISE: Development Projects (agricultural, rural, forestry, livestock, fishery and other community-based projects), need to put in place a system for effective planning and implementation. While new projects will need strategic planning skills, on-going ones require necessary skills for effective implementation towards sustainability.

OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this course is to increase and enhance participants' understanding of the concepts and techniques employed in modern planning and implementation of agricultural and rural development projects. At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
 
  • identify projects for formulation;
  • design feasible and viable projects;
  • schedule project activities, (sequentially), for effective implementation;
  • use project resources efficiently and effectively; and
  • appreciate the use of computers in project planning and analysis.

  • Overview of management prinicples.
  • Characteristics of development projects.
  • The project sequence/cycle.
  • Participatory approaches in project design and development.
  • Data gathering for progect design.
  • Project logical framework design.
  • Projection of project cash/resource flow.
  • Measure of project worth/viability.
  • Project financial statement prepatation.
  • Network analysis for project implementation (with micro-computer application).
  • Sustainability monitoring and evaluation for project.
  • Project/Business plan report writing.
TRAINING METHODS: Lecturettes, group discussions and exercises, study visit, case study and hands on computer exercises.

Directors and Officers responsible for planning in the PRSD of both the Federal and State Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Research Officers in the ADPs - Crops, Livestock, Forestry, and Fishery Departments, Planning Specialists in Non-Governmental Organisations ( NGOs), Community Based Organisation (CBOs) and Agricultural Department of Banks, Managers of private agricultural development agencies, etc.
